Selected Work
Caratapa / ImproGlobal
Improvisation & International Collaboration
Caratapa developed as a practice-based environment for theatre improvisation, performer training and creative research. Daniel’s work connected improvisation with scenic readiness, collaboration, responsiveness and audience interaction, later extending through international exchange with artists from Brazil, Germany, Portugal and Australia. In 2015, Caratapa ImproGlobal – Giro Alemanha e Portugal received R$31,000 in cultural mobility funding from the State of Bahia.
Focus: Improvisation · Performer Training · Practice-Based Research · International Exchange

Prontidão Cênica
Somatic Education, Pilates & Performer Training
Prontidão Cênica is a central area of Daniel’s academic research into how performers prepare physically, perceptually and creatively for action. His 2011 PhD, Diálogos Somáticos do Movimento: O Método Pilates para a Prontidão Cênica, investigated Pilates as a somatic method for performer preparation, while his later writing expanded the concept through improvisation, body-mind integration and heightened awareness.

Sommerwerft, Frankfurt
International Theatre & Cultural Mobility
In 2017, Daniel was the proponent of Uma Vez Nada Mais e Sebastião em Frankfurt, an international cultural-mobility project presenting two Bahian theatre productions at the 16th Sommerwerft Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, organised by Antagon TheaterAKTion. The project received R$20,000 in official cultural mobility funding, demonstrating external support for the international circulation of the work.

Merlin ou a Terra Deserta
Award-Winning Theatre
Merlin ou a Terra Deserta represents an important early milestone in Daniel Becker Denovaro’s professional theatre career in Bahia. The production was directed by Carmen Paternostro and formed part of the professional theatre scene in which Daniel was developing his work as an actor and theatre practitioner.
The production received Best Production at the Troféu Bahia Aplaude in 1993, giving the work a valuable layer of external recognition. For the website, this is significant because it demonstrates that Daniel’s professional artistic practice was already being recognised within the theatre sector more than three decades ago. It helps establish not only longevity, but continuity — showing that his later work in research, education and improvisation emerged from a substantial foundation in professional performance.
From an NIV perspective, I would use this project to demonstrate sustained professional achievement in the arts. It gives the portfolio historical depth and shows that Daniel’s academic and pedagogical work developed alongside, and out of, a long-standing professional theatre practice rather than replacing it.

Screen Performance
Film & Audiovisual Work
Daniel’s practice has also extended beyond theatre into film, television and audiovisual performance, demonstrating his ability to work across different modes of acting and production. His documented screen work includes Pinta (2012), Francisco Só Quer Jogar Bola (2016), the audiovisual series Frequência Positiva (2017), and the documentary-fiction project Um Baiano Chamado Hansen (2019). These credits show an ongoing relationship with screen performance alongside his work in theatre, teaching and research.
A particularly important recent development is his participation in the 2026 Amazon MGM Studios feature film Balls Up, directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser. Daniel is credited in the film as Angry Jail Guard. The film was released globally on Prime Video on 15 April 2026, and filming took place in Queensland, including the Gold Coast.

2026 — Balls Up, Amazon MGM Studios / Prime Video

ImproVida
Práticas e reflexões para o Teatro de Improvisação
Author — Daniel Becker Denovaro
Published by EDUFBA
ImproVida brings together Daniel Becker Denovaro’s artistic, pedagogical and academic investigation into theatre improvisation. Developed from decades of practice as an actor, educator, improviser and researcher, the book connects practical exercises with reflections on creativity, presence, performer readiness and collaborative creation.
The publication represents an important consolidation of Daniel’s research into improvisation as both an artistic language and an educational methodology, extending ideas developed through his work with Caratapa, Prontidão Cênica and performer training.
The Contribution of the Pilates Method
Daniel Becker Denovaro · Repertório: Teatro & Dança · 2012
This article examines the application of somatic education to actor training and argues for the Pilates Method as a valuable practice within that field. Daniel connects body awareness, movement, autonomy and physical preparation with the performer’s creative development. It also directly introduces the relationship between Pilates, somatic education and what he terms Prontidão Cênica.

Daniel Becker Denovaro · Cadernos do GIPE-CIT · 2017
This article develops Daniel’s concept of Prontidão Cênica — Scenic Readiness as a framework for understanding the performer’s physical, perceptual and creative preparedness. It connects movement, improvisation and embodied awareness, extending the ideas developed through his doctoral research into a broader theory of performer readiness. Daniel’s academic record lists this publication in Cadernos do GIPE-CIT, volume 37
O Método Pilates para a Prontidão Cênica
Doctoral Thesis · UFBA · 2011
This doctoral research investigates the Pilates Method as part of the actor’s body training within the principles of somatic education. The thesis proposes that continuous somatic practice can support scenic readiness by integrating technique and creativity, expanding movement repertoire, body awareness and performer autonomy.
